Doorstep lulz. [Feb. 18th, 2007|10:47 am]
[mood | amused]

There was a knock at the door today and when I went to answer it, there were a group of modestly dressed ladies holding bibles... Oh boy...

"Hello, how are you today?"

"Good!"

"That's good. We're Jehovahs witnesses..."

"Oh. Well, we're atheists so we're not interested. Sorry." I assure you I said this very politely though that's hard to get across in type.

"Oh." She just sort of stared at me for a second, looking like a deer caught in the headlights then said, "Ok. Have a nice day." And they left!

I was rather impressed that they gave up that quickly. I thought I was going to have to get into a raging theological debate with them before they finally went away. Go fig.

Ganked meme. [Feb. 10th, 2007|10:39 pm]
[mood | tired]

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now.  (stupid long distance relationship...) × I don't watch much TV these days.  (I'm mostly about watching things on youtube now.) I own lots of books.
× I wear glasses or contact lenses. × I love to play video games. I've tried marijuana.
I've watched porn movies.  (Yeah baby... *cheesy 70s music*) × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.
it goes on... )

Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip! [Jan. 7th, 2007|04:57 pm]
[mood | contemplative]

Just in case anyone thought I had fallen off the face of the Earth... sorry to disappoint. I am, in fact, still alive (just barely though.)

I've been busy the last few weeks trying to keep my boyfriend entertained during his trip and staving off death because I've been sick on and off for almost a month now. I think I might have strep throat because every morning when I wake up it feels like someone has taken a blowtorch to the back of my throat. This is made all the worse by the fact that, because I'm participating in a clinical research study for a new anxiety medication... I can't take anything for my complaints. So I just cope and wait for death... or to get better. Whichever comes first.

Someone asked me the other day if I ever felt like I was just waiting to start living life, to which I responded... "ALL THE TIME!" Between the slow going of my schooling, just beginning to be able to look for a new job, and now the added fact that my boyfriend is officially moving out here sometime next year... it feels like my whole life has reached a point of stinky cesspool stagnation. I'm waiting to finish school, waiting to start therapy so I can be less anxious, waiting to start my career, waiting to start a life with the man I can't help but love, waiting, waiting, waiting.

My life is so very different from what it used to be... but then again, I suppose that's always the case when you stop and reflect every few years. I try and take comfort in the fact, that although life is different... a lot of it is for the better, not the worst. I guess it just overwhelms me because my anxiety doesn't respond well to change. I'm a different person, with different friendships, different priorities, different mental processes.

I think I just have to learn to balance doing all the things I need to do to move ahead with my life and living in the now a little more. I mean... this IS my life. I have to realize it's the journey... not the destination.

P.S. See what lack of medication when I'm sick will do!? The philosopher in me gets a little nutty...

Oh be still my fangirl heart. [Dec. 6th, 2006|10:39 pm]
[mood | excited]

I had the tv on, but wasn't really paying attention when I heard a very familiar, scratchy but endearing voice. LO AND BEHOLD!

Penn Jillette is going to host a new game show on NBC~!!!! (hyperventilates from joy)

http://www.tv.com/story/7244.html

(I find the premise of the show kind of funny because Penn has
prosopagnosia, a rare inability to recognize faces.)

1:34am EDITED TO ADD:

I was channel surfing while I wait out my insomnia, and what do I find on channel 13? A "Home Improvement" rerun with none other than Penn and Teller as the guest stars! It's like Christmas 4 weeks early!

I am shocked at how amazingly disgusting this is, but I commend Jon Stewart for highlighting that point so effectively. I'm also really proud of Minnesota for being progressive enough to vote for a Muslim congressman. Kudos! *puts on her Minnesota t-shirt from her last trip there*

Two things that are pissing me off right now...

1. That new Sears commercial with Ty Pennington. The one where he talks about how men like power tools and women like shoes. It's unabashedly sexist and Ty Pennington being "America's Angel" really doesn't excuse him.

2. That since the Google acquisition of YouTube, Viacom has smelled the money and are now pulling all the Daily Show clips... Fuck you GooTube for taking away my beautiful Jon and Stephen. *weeps for humanity*

One thing that is NOT pissing me off right now...

BORAT~! I've never laughed so hard at a movie before. It's pure gold. Go see it.

You Are a Seeker Soul

You are on a quest for knowledge and life challenges.
You love to be curious and ask a ton of questions.
Since you know so much, you make for an interesting conversationalist.
Mentally alert, you can outwit almost anyone (and have fun doing it!).

Very introspective, you can be silently critical of others.
And your quiet nature makes it difficult for people to get to know you.
You see yourself as a philosopher, and you take everything philosophically.
Your main talent is expressing and communicating ideas.

Things I learned from this:

1. I apparently avoid having pictures taken directly face on. I had to take one for this.

2. People that keep telling me I look like Claire Danes can stop now.

3. Who is Bipasha Basu? (ok, so that was more of a question than something I learned, but... eh)

I was just watching t.v. and saw this commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhIwQoq89-U

See the part where that guy lets some other car turn in front of him? That's the "Star Theatre" in oldtown La Puente. It's a porn theater! (or was last time I knew of it anyhow.) I remember I'd drive by there with my mom on the way to the library (always been a crazy bookworm) and instead of movie posters in the "now playing" slots, they had leopard fur fabric!

Are the motherfuckers ready for the fatherfuckers? [Sep. 4th, 2006|01:20 am]
[mood | accomplished]
[music |Peaches - Shake Yer Dix]

My camera's been busted for about 2 months now and I finally nagged myself into taking it in seeing as I paid $40 for a Best Buy warranty. I'd heard they usually just give you a new one since mine is so old they don't make it anymore, so I was all ready for a delicious new camera. I took it to the Best Buy in City of Industry because it's right by my work and ya know... two birds. I waited in line in customer service, only to be told that I had to take it to the "Geek Squad" I trudged over there and was greeted by a non-geek-really-more-of-a-jock-looking guy. I handed him my warranty and told him the screen on my camera didn't turn on anymore. He took the camera and then eyed me suspiciously.

"Is it hot outside?"
It's a fucking 101 degrees.
"Yeah, it's pretty hot out there."
"I can tell by the camera. You know, heat's not good for it."
Did this guy want me to fucking drive it over in a cooler like a kidney or something?
"Yeah, I know, but it's hot in my car... and the camera stopped working a while ago. It wasn't exposed to any heat before."
Obviously thinks I'm negligent with technology and doesn't believe me.
"Ok, well we're going to have to send it in to get it fixed."
WHA???
"How long will that take?"
"About two weeks."
Motherfucker.
"Oooh, really? I was kind of hoping to get this all out of the way today."
"Yeah, well we have to send it in. We can't fix this here."
Geek Squad my ass.
Getting desperate and trying cute, dumb girl line in which I'm only half joking.
"Can't I just have a new one?"
Looks at me like I just asked for his left testicle and laughs in my face.
"Noooo, I'm sorry, that's not the way it works."
Bitch gonna get stabbed.
"Oh, all right. Well in that case, I'll take it to my local Best Buy, since I only work in the area, I'd figured this would be on the way, but since it's going to take two weeks, ya know... I'd rather pick it up locally."
Realizing what a lie that sounds like since I'm obviously in the area a lot if I work here, but now I'm kind of glad and hope he realizes I'm totally bullshitting him.
"All right, sorry about that."
"Oh! No problem at all! Thanks for your help!"

Long story short, I drove to the West Covina Best Buy and the actually-looked-like-geek squad guys there took it to the back for a second then came back out with some paperwork and told me to take it over to the camera section and tell them they had approved an exchange for a NEW camera (with awesome color changing features), since they don't make mine anymore. What a fucking bitch that other guy was. If I ever see him again, I'm going to stab him in the left testicle. Thank Odin for the slackers in West Covina.

(P.S. Regarding looking like a geek vs. jock... I know someone's looks have nothing to do with their actual skills, it was more of an observation than anything else.)

Anyhow, here's some pictures I took with the color changing features (which I'm now in love with.) )

Oh yeah... human interaction... now I remember. [Jun. 22nd, 2006|01:02 am]
[mood | thoughtful]
[music |Coldplay - Talk]

After spending pretty much all day today interacting genuinely with people, I realize why I've felt so odd lately (other than being sick anyway).

At my old job I interacted all day with my co-workers and customers. We all had a relationship.

At my new job, I basically get to interact with no one other than in passing. I've completely lacked every day interaction with people that wasn't absolutely necessary. I also ended school for the summer right around the time I changed jobs.

I spent the first half of the day today at a CPR/First Aid class everyone at my job was required to pass. I really had a blast. I spent the whole time talking and joking and laughing with all the people in the class (and learning CPR somewhere in there as well).
Later in the day, I went with my mother to see my poor cousin, who has leukemia. He's only 34 and it's so sad to see him in so much pain, but at least we were able to keep him company for a while.
Finally, Tommy and I went to meet up with a whole bunch of people I hadn't seen in a while at the Royal Lounge. It was really kick back and I got to chat and catch up a bit with everyone.

It was really such a change from my routine as of late, and it was really nice. I'm glad my job affords me so much flexibility, and I know I'll really count my lucky stars when school rolls around again and I can work around my school schedule, but at the moment, I miss my old routine and talking to nice people on a daily basis.

Well, at least in the middle of July, the whole routine will get broken up a bit because I'll be flying out to see Jonny since his roomates are getting married. We might even go to the new science museum out there... mmm... science...
